mobile church - community fun day
Please join us for our 1st 'Block Party' Mobile Church Event of 2014!
Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 11am - Palisades Recreation Center, 851 Alma Real Drive Pacific Palisades, CA 90272
This is a free event that is open to the public! We see this an an opportunity for the Pacific Palisades community to meet their neighbors while enjoying a BBQ and a fun family/team olympics activity for all ages at a great park! This is NOT a church service! Please plan to join us!
In 2014, our plan is to take the next step in walking-out the vision God gave Pastor Steve in 1987 by adding an element of being more mobile than ever. From the beginning the vision was about getting out to the people, rather than expecting the people to come to us in a church building. So, we want to establish a mobile church to help take this idea of being out in public to the next level. We want to be ready to go mobile at any time and be prepared to set up a service anywhere, anytime, kind of like having a moving tabernacle!
Mobile Church refers to doing a service out in public somewhere other than where we usually gather (often on the last day of each month).
Here are the projected dates for 2014:
- January 19th - Metro Worship Service at 11am - Santa Monica Library Auditorium, 601 SM Blvd, Santa Monica, CA 90401

metro 2014 - going out!
For this season in the life of Metro we feel that we need to follow Jesus together (discipleship) with a heightened focus on living our lives out among the people more than ever. In talking about discipleship, Jesus tells us in John 13:35 that: "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
One of the ways we have gone out among the people is by moving our operation into a marketplace-type setting in downtown Santa Monica at 6th/Arizona! This is a great building that Google upgraded before moving to Venice. It is now a collaborative workspace called ROC Santa Monica. We moved our office and Metro Collaborative to this building in October 2013 and also began having our Sunday services here on the rooftop in November 2013!
We also plan to take it to the next level by making some upgrades to the 3 main ways we operate as disciples in community: Sunday services, community groups (during the week) and monthly outreach.
Our Sunday services now occur in a public setting and we have begun having 2 different kinds of services. Please click HERE for more details.
These weekday gatherings are the engine that drives everything else we do. Please click HERE for more details.
This refers to doing a mobile service somewhere out in public on the last day of each month. Please click HERE for more details.

farewell service potluck + metro work day

This is our last Sunday at the church on Yale Street so we want to celebrate the 4 years we spent together at this church! We will begin the service at 11am by eating together (please bring food for the Potluck by 10:45am. Any brunch item you want to share will do!). After we eat we will worship together and then Pastor Steve will teach a message from God’s word.
After the service we will have a Metro Work Day where we make work fun by doing it together! We need as much help as possible to pull stuff out of storage and stage it in the middle of the sanctuary to sort for the Rummage Sale we’re having on 11/23.
Please plan to attend this special service and to stay after to help, if you can. For more info about the Potluck, please contact Shirley at email@example.com. For more info about the Work Day, please contact Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org.

think tank/town hall series: doing church God's way
Sundays at 7pm - 1420 Yale Street, Santa Monica, CA 90404
Please join us for a series of Think Tank/Town Hall meetings geared towards brain-storming ideas for aligning with the biblical model of church. As we look at how Jesus discipled His followers, and at the early church, it raises many questions about how we do church in our day. Our goal is to figure out together new ways to walk-out Metro's vision from God for the Westside of Los Angeles. We value your opinion and want to hear from you so please come prepared to share your thoughts.
This series will meet on 3 consecutive Sundays, as follows:
Think Tank/Town Hall Series – Doing Church God's Way
1. Church Service – 9/29
2. Family Church – 10/6
3. Mobile Church – 10/13
community groups - fall launch 2013
The Fall Community Groups are going through the same book (Multiply by Francis Chan) we studied during the summer at the mid-week study on Wednesday evenings. For the Fall, our focus is on the New Testament survey section of the book.
second saturday outreach
Every 2nd Saturday we go out into coffee houses in the various neighborhoods on the Westside of LA to meet, have coffee, and simply fellowship in public. As we hang out together and love one another others will know that we are His.
intro to romans
Pastor Steve has been working closely with a group of men over the past several months and has assigned each one a chapter in the book of Romans to study and research. As we discuss the book together we are gaining insights into new ways of understanding and presenting this book to you!
On Sunday, July 28th we provided a historical backdrop of what was actually happening in Rome at the time the book was written. I was assigned Chapter 1 and have been learning a lot about the importance of this letter as we look at the culture, setting, great challenges and decay of Roman society at that time. Our goal is to help develop in you a greater understanding of the pressure affecting the Roman believers and how Paul would have the Spirit-driven insight and great timing to deliver this message of hope, inspiration and judgement to those who would be ruthlessly persecuted for their faith.
Listen to all of the teachings in Romans HERE!
the meaning of life?
Sunday, July 28th at 7pm, Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Avenue, Venice, CA
Come to this one-time event at the Lodge for a free dinner and a talk about the meaning of life!
Afterwards, you're invited to consider attending a 7-week course called Alpha. Alpha is a practical introduction to the Christian faith, aimed particularly at non-churchgoers and new Christians. Wherever Jesus went there was fascination. People were compelled, comforted, healed, confused, angered, enamored and outraged but they were never bored. Jesus is infinitely fascinating. Let's talk!
For more info, please contact Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sunday, July 14th at 7pm
This is a chance to share an evening with friends that might not come to church, but might be open to hearing the Good News in a different setting.
Savannah is an LA girl that tells her story through song. In her own words she says, "First and foremost, I'm a girl who loves Jesus. I'm also a girl who loves words, particularly written words. My lyricism is a way for me to communicate what is meaningful to me, and to work through the things which God is progressively revealing to me, in the most concise way I can manage..."
Come hang out with Savannah ... and bring a friend to this FREE event!
Come as you are!
5th Sunday Celebration
Sunday, June 30th at 11am - Santa Monica Beach (on the sand where Ocean Park Blvd ends)
Every Sunday morning I have the privilege of opening the Bible with a delightful group of people on the beach at Ocean Park at 9am and another (equally delightful) group at 1420 Yale Street at 11am. This coming Sunday things are switched. At 9am we will meet at the church on Yale and at 11am we will meet on the beach at Ocean Park .
Jesus modeled for us the priority of going to where the people are. On Easter, we saw many people who may not walk through the doors of a church building gather with us in the meadow, under the sycamores of Temescal Gateway Park. This coming Sunday we're going back out to meet in public and where better to do that, than the beach?Things will kick off with a Brunch at 11am, followed by a time of fellowship, worship and time in the Word (visitor friendly). Please plan to join us and I encourage you to invite your friends and family.
Tea Party Send-off
Saturday, June 29th, 3pm
1420 Yale St, Santa Monica, CA 90404
We are gathering together to send out our mid-west mission team to serve and love our families across the nations.
Come join us for tea, while raising prayers and moral support for our team. This will be a great opportunity to meet the team and hear their stories. They'll be sharing the gospel of Christ through their serving. You will be able to hear about their plans and celebrate the sharing of the Good News.
"For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."
